Call On The LORD
July 7, 2025
“I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised; so shall I be saved from my enemies” (Psalm 18:3).
Dear Praying Friends:
David had been plunged into deep danger and distress, surrounded by fierce and powerful enemies who threatened to destroy him. He “called upon the LORD,” and found deliverance (18:6). Now he stands in a broad and level place, safe and secure in God’s protection. More than that, his enemies have suffered total defeat as God had empowered him to attack, overcome, and completely destroy them.
So now he stands firm in his faith, the high praises of God in his mouth.
We may have human enemies, as David did. At home, school, work, or in the world, they threaten us in various ways.
More than that, however, Paul reminds us that our real foes are not “flesh and blood,” but “spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:12). More specifically, we are beset with temptations from the world, the devil, and our own flesh, which include unholy passions of the body and the mind (Ephesians 2:2-3).
We can’t defeat these in our own strength but, like David, we can overcome by the power of the resurrected Lord Jesus.
God helped me to write more on my autobiography and on Hebrews, to post another short article for the BDCC here, and to write a monthly prayer letter, which you should have received. Joseph Liu, our new China Institute Partner, has translated it for posting on the Chinese page of our website.
“The LORD lives! And blessed be my Rock! Let the God of my salvation be exalted!” (Psalm 18:46).
Yours in his victorious strength,
Wright
