January 20, 2025: Be Thankful

“Offer to God thanksgiving, and pay your vows to the Most High . . . Whoever offers praise glorifies Me; and to him who orders his conduct aright I will show the salvation of God” (Psalm 50:14, 23).

Dear Praying Friends:

This psalm is filled with rebuke and warnings of judgment if God’s people do not repent and change their ways, but the Lord also offers hope: If we thank him and praise him, and do our best to obey his commands, he will deliver us and show us his salvation (Psalm 50:15, 23; see also Psalm 95:2; 100:4; Ephesians 5:20; 1 Thessalonians 5:18; etc.).

That is one reason why I usually open these weekly prayer updates by thanking you for praying. The other is to encourage you that God is hearing and working through your prayers.

Thank you for praying last week.

I was given strength to write some notes on Hebrews and on the story about Samuel Wells Williams and to talk with several people.

The Lord also guided our Board; they decided to allow me to go to Taiwan.

For your prayers (Pick two or three): Please ask God to

  • Give us all a thankful heart for all that he brings into our life.
  • Grant me wisdom as I make inquiries about visiting friends and speaking in seminaries and bookstores and as we make reservations for places to stay.
  • Give me strength and wisdom in writing and in talking with people.

“Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For His mercy [steadfast love] endures forever” (Psalm 118:1).

Yours in his unfailing goodness and love,
Wright
