November 4, 2024: God is Ruler

“The LORD said to my Lord, ‘Sit at My right hand, till I make Your enemies Your footstool.’ . . . Rule in the midst of Your enemies!” (Psalm 110:1, 4b).

Dear Praying Friends:

One of the most quoted in the New Testament of any of the psalms, this one was used by our Lord Jesus to confirm his status as the Christ, the unique Son of God, and Lord (Matthew 22:44; Mark 12:36; Luke 20:42, 43), as did Peter (Acts 2:34-35).

Paul echoed its language when he said that Christ is now “seated at [God’s] right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion . . .And He [God] put all things under His feet and gave Him to be head over all things to the church” (Ephesians 1:20-23).

Jesus reigns and rules over all things, including our health, finances, families, work, church, community, and nation.

Regardless of whoever wins the national, state, and local elections in the United States tomorrow, therefore, we can trust that our Lord Jesus is in control and that God the Father is working “all things according to the counsel of His will” (Ephesians 1:11).

Our duty now is to serve him in every role and responsibility we have, to pray, and to be “giving thanks always and for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Ephesians 5:20).

“The LORD reigns; let the earth rejoice!” (Psalm 97:1).

Yours under his gracious governance,
Wright
