Our God is Near

“The LORD is near to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon him in truth” (Psalm 145:18).

“The Lord is at hand [near]. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God” (Philippians 4:5b-6).

The Lord is near not only to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18), but to all who call upon him in the day of trouble (Psalm 50:15). Now, we know that “the Lord” is the Lord Jesus Christ, who promised, “Lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20).

Not only so, but his coming is near. Thus, our current troubles are a “light, momentary affliction” that will soon come to an end with the return of Christ and our transformation into his glorious image (2 Corinthians 4:17).

And Jesus our High Priest is not only near to us, but at the right hand of the Father, as he intercedes for us (Romans 8:34).

We can be sure, therefore, that when we call upon him with sincere faith based on the truth of his Word, he will hear our cry and save us (Psalm 145:19). That is why we can cast all our cares on God, trusting him to supply all our needs and, having given us his own Son, he will also give us all good things – that is, all that is good for us (Romans 8:32).
